Models

Very interesting stuff guys, really really wacky.
Currently the voids look as if they contain several qualities all bunch together, and therefore is not very evident or clear how these operate even with the diagrams. The question then becomes about simplification of these brilliant and already existing ideas.

How to approach this: AFTER DOING THE DRAWINGS!
  1. Could you guys discuss between each-other what was the main spatial attributes of the models hat you found the most interesting.
  2. Then consider the most basic and obvious way this could be represented (ie more simplified forms, less angles, less indents so on - do 10 really obvious ones. and try and stretch and pull these so they make the buildings make sense.
  3. in the solid block there where heaps of 200m tall towers, which isn't really the point right?, the voids need to create buildings as well as spaces which is the challenge.
Complicated is not necessarily better... Doing a great job, keep on pushing

Photos of some of our experimentation

Hey Alina and Erik,

How are you guys going?

These are some of the foam experiments Andrew and I did. Were we on the right track?

We've sent the rhino and diagrams to Erik's email.

Schedule

(Some what delayed)

week 1 - 21 Sep - 27 Sep
One rhino model with all the successful voids in one cube. With corresponding diagrams for each void type, Outlining the particular opportunities for each, such as plaza (open space), low and high rise buildings.

With consideration to the rectangular planning and how the voids fit together to create buildings. Short buildings next to tall ones: 30 different voids with particular architectural (spatial, light, division, shadows, ) qualities explain these with simple sectional diagrams.

By 25th a draft rhino model of the digital fabrication model. + 2 blog posts with diagrams
By 27th September a physical digital fabrication model.

The aim is to get successful buildings as well as great spatial diversity, therefore the thinking needs to go both ways; voids and solids - open space(for light, for view, for ...) and buildings.

Welcome to the dedicated workshop blog!

Simon + Andrew + Catherine + Celest welcome to our blog where we can communicate and post and our work to the world. This is complimentary to the other blog being run for the whole studio!

Erik + Alina

See you guys on Saturday morning..
